This is me at Prom back in the day – 1995 (oh, boy i am old)
Prom was such a big thing back then, but now as an adult I think it is kinda silly! I thought I was going to have a heart attack when my high school super crush asked me to go to Prom. It’s always fun to get dressed up, but the pressure of being asked, what to wear, did you get invited to an after party and will your date ever hang out with you again was too much! That’s not even mentioning the possibility of you ending up with a zit the night before. High school was full of good times.
As I am writing this my 5 year old asked me the question “Mommy, why didn’t you go to Prom with Daddy?”. She is so cute, I wish I could have gone to Prom with her Daddy. His Prom was much cooler than mine. For my husband’s Prom the school planned a huge lock in event at the Community Center for the juniors and seniors. The kids would start with meeting up for dinner somewhere in Mankato, head over to the school for a 1-2 hour dance and then end the night at the lock in. He told me kids getting drunk was unheard of because it was planned out so well. Oh, I almost forgot I would have never gone to Prom with my husband because he was 18 and at that time I was 22 with two kids!
My husband had such a cool car!
He also had a date for Prom, but I really like the photos of him with his car. He told me after they drove down the dirt road he stopped to wipe down his car. His date thought he was crazy, but look at that beauty!
Ryan’s date was a cutie, too.
I thought my little black dress I wore for Prom was a safe choice. Today, I am way more open to trying new styles and looks because I am less worried about what other people think. Macy’s is one of my favorite places to shop when I am looking for something stylish and reasonably priced. The Prom goers of this day and age are lucky to have a place to go to like Macy’s.
I was able to join up with a couple of my other blogger friends at the famous Mall of America for one of Macy’s 2013 Celebrity Stylists Prom Fashion Shopping Parties.
I don’t know who dropped the ball, but somewhere in the mix us bloggers where told to come to the event an hour later then it started. So, we all missed the fashion show. Lame. However, we were able to get in on all the fun in the junior section of Macy’s after the fashion show.
Oops, I am late & I don’t even know it.
Macy’s special guest star of the day was Mandi Line. She is the Costume Designer for the show Pretty Little Liars. Mandi Line is super chill and I think it would be awesome to have a sleepover with her someday!
I should have worn heels.
I was excited to get my hair done up by Trinity (a hair stylist from Jon English Salon in Uptown). She was super fun and made me wish I could have a hair artist everyday!
Just go with it!
Meet my other blogging friend Jen. She blogs with her sister Katie over at Paisley Print Shoes. They are compete opposites and it is fun to read about their likes and dislikes on their site.
Lookin’ Good!
Jen’s turn -
Jen really enjoyed having her hair done for her date she was going to after the Macy’s event. We call this look the wash and go.
Once my hair was finished I went over to the makeup bar to get some help with my face. Macy’s has more events planned for you to enjoy in different areas of the USA. Check locations and dates down at the end to see if your Macy’s is hosting a 2013 Celebrity Stylists Prom Fashion Shopping Party.
I feel pretty oh so pretty
Amy from Grinning Cheek to Cheek was right behind us getting her gorgeous on, too. Trinity gave her a sweet and simple braid look which I think fits Ms. Amy to a tee.
Sweet Amy
I can never get my makeup to look the way I want it to look. Why can’t the smokey eye work on me when I do it? Instead, I look like a creepy raccoon who lost his way in the night.
Prom makeup done right – I wish I had these ladies back in 1995!
When we were all done getting dolled up it was time to go shopping for the dress we would choose to wear now in the year 2013 if we were going to Prom. I think my style can be put into one word…
Awesome!
Yes, I am free for all paying modeling jobs you might have open. I actually fell in love with this dress which I renamed as The Heartbreaker.
Amy on the search for her Diva Dress -
When out of the blue Jen finds the best dress ever!
The Chicken Dress
You probably want to see some of the real models…
Not that we aren’t glamorous
The three blogging amigos had so much fun! I didn’t feel like I missed out on too much since I was late to the whole event.
Love these tights, so much -
Macy’s also hired a DJ to make you feel the Prom like atmosphere. I should have asked him if he took requests.
Ice Ice Baby
Prom dresses today are so beautiful it makes me wish I had somewhere to wear one of these gowns.
My style dresses – from Macy’s
I might start stocking the Macy’s near my house. Maybe I can get my dream dress after Prom season for half the price. I would wear it somewhere; maybe while I take the kiddos to the park. I will become known as the neighborhood fancy lady with a butt load of tots.
Just Fabulous!
I had to say goodbye to my dream dress and head home. I was hoping with my amazing hair and makeup Ryan would be in for taking me out for dinner.
If my hair didn’t scare him away!
xoxo Kelly
